RIL has developed offshore oil & gas fields in the block KG-DWN-98/3 (KG-D6) in the Krishna Godavari Basin on the East Coast of India. The FPSO serves as the main processing hub, managing various processing requirements of produced fluid and the Subsea Production System.

Challenge: Sailing the newly built FPSO through the Malacca Straits while facing cyclonic conditions during the voyage.
Solution Provided by OCS: The FPSO, constructed in a Korean shipyard, needed to be delivered to its designated location on the East Coast of India. OCS's scope included participating in sea trials, sailing the FPSO to the destination, and handing it over to the client for further activities.
To navigate the FPSO to its destination, a comprehensive passage plan was prepared and vetted by experts. The voyage from Geoje to Kakinada was projected to take 17 days. OCS engaged weather routing services to advise on the best route and warn of any cyclonic activity predicted during the voyage.
Professional Marine Pilots, assisted by tugs, were hired to navigate the FPSO through dense traffic areas of the Singapore straits and piracy-prone areas of the Malacca Straits. Emergency medical facilities were available 24/7, with standby medivac services in case of emergencies.
Results:
The FPSO was sailed by an experienced delivery captain, skilled in navigating through the congested Singapore straits. Despite facing unexpected weather challenges, including a cyclone in the South China Sea, the onboard team successfully recharted a passage plan and completed the voyage within the designated timeline. The FPSO was delivered to the East Coast of India without incidents, showcasing OCS’s expertise in managing challenging maritime conditions.
